KAUST – South Beach

I went this morning to the South Beach, early on, before the sunrise. The tide was high and I setup my hide very close to the water, ready for another great birding morning. As soon as the sun rose I was surrounded by a good number of birds. The highlights were a 4 Eurasian Spoonbills and a Common Kingfisher but at such distance that a good shot was not possible.

Very soon the tide turned and I found myself with only some Plovers around; couple of them were kind enough to approach my hide so I could at least get some nice close-ups. A Desert Wheatear passed by on a short distance, allowing a shot of his flight.

A bit later a strong wind came up; I took my hide down and headed back to my scooter, in the middle of a perfect sandstorm…

Not the best morning for birding finally.
